Exciting new opportunity with the Williamson Art Gallery and for Birkenhead

We are delighted to announce that the Friends of the Williamson and Wirral Museums and the Williamson Art Gallery are part of an exciting new project initiated by Wirral Methodist Housing Association offering arts opportunities to communities in Wirral over the next nine months.

At a time when the Birkenhead docks landscape is changing dramatically with the development of Wirral Waters     "....and the River flows on "   will offer a series of art workshops culminating in the creation of a large scale mural depicting the life of the river and the docks past, present and future.

Inspired by the great river created in last year’s summer art at the Williamson, " Sharing the Journey 2014", the project will offer pop up art workshops for all ages in local outdoor spaces at the end of July while the Summer Art workshops for children and young people will return to the Williamson Art Gallery in August for a fourteenth year. These will be followed by a series of workshops with community groups through autumn and winter 2015/16.

The project’s lead artist is Robyn Woolston, winner of the Liverpool Art Prize 2012, who will be working alongside a team of well known and familiar local artists with coordinators Cathy Warren, Arts Facilitator and Jill Carter, Community engagement officer for Wirral Methodist Housing Association.

"....and the River flows on"workshops will be free thanks to a successful bid by Wirral Methodist Housing Association to Arts Council England with further support from The Friends of the Williamson Art Gallery, the Stronger Communities Initiative, Magenta Housing,  Family Housing and Wirral Lifelong and Family Learning Service.
