Wirral Heritage Open Days: HMS Conway Chapel and Museum 5th to 13th of September 2015
The Priory Scriptorium is dedicated to the memory of HMS Conway, a training ship anchored off Rock Ferry from 1859 to 1941, before moving to the Menai Straits. It contains many Conway artefacts, stained glass and painted windows and honour boards recording four Naval Officers who were awarded the Victoria Cross.

Wirral Heritage Open Days: Priory Volunteers' Weekend 5th and 6th of September 2015
FREE guided Tours will take place at 12pm and 2pm. Site open 10am-5pm
Our team of enthusiastic volunteers will be hosting a weekend of family friendly activities exploring the 865 year old history of the priory.The refectory will be hosting a tea room, providing Priory inspired refreshments on site. A number of free tours, trails, costume box, workshops and art activities will be taking place throughout the day.

A look at the building, history and collections of the Williamson with Colin Simpson, Wirral’s Principal Museums Officer, including how and why collections are formed and a glimpse behind the scenes at

Wirral Heritage Open Days: Tranmere Deep Air Raid Shelter: Lecture
Thursday, 10th September 2pm.
The talk will be given by Ian Weir of Blackett-Ord Conservation Engineering Ltd who is the Project Manager and Conservation Engineer who has led recent investigations into the presence, extent and condition of the Birkenhead tunnels, built for Camell Lairds’ workforce at the beginning of WWII. Ian will report on the initial findings so far, which have been undertaken on behalf of Tranmere Tunnels Volunteers Ltd, with grant assistance from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Wirral Heritage Open Days: Magna Carta Madness Saturday 12th and 13thSeptember 2015
10am - 5pm. Free Guided tours of the Birkenhead Priory 12pm and 2pm
Join the team from Big Heritage for a weekend of hands on fun and investigation. Visitors will meet characters from the 13th century who will take you on an entertaining and memorable journey around the Priory. 2015 is the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta - one of the most important documents in legal history, and signed by King John in 1215. The beautiful priory at Birkenhead was only 25 years old when Magna Carta was signed, so it's the perfect venue to celebrate this landmark! Join one of King John's barons for some 13th century fun, learn how manuscripts were made, written and sealed then get hands on with a 13th century finds-handling table.
